2nd week

As salam ...

This is my 2nd entry ...well to start with....my marathon to class from Bandar Penawar..just in the nick of time arriving at lab C14-227  ..'semput yoo'..Thanks to Jaja for texting  me about  the new venue for the class.

This class session was handled by Prof Zaida..Before we proceed to the lesson for this week. I would like to conclude the explanation and advice given by her..

Prof Zaidatun
  • Blog is a learning environment of the class and need to do reflection of each week. The blog is very important for us to recalled or retrieved back what we have learn - from the mind .
  • Facebook  is a learning place. New group created by the admin (Ms Nurul Farhana  and Viccki). The new facebook group " Facebooking Authoring System Together" - It is a place for us to have discussion , shared problem and asking question related to this subject.
  • Application is the learning resources .
From this three main points, i can conclude that learning environment , learning place and learning resources create technology.Technology is created by human to make life easier and suit with  human needs .

How to create technology ? we need  to have knowledge.. how to get knowledge ?
The answer is :- "come to class , confirm the understanding of what have been learn  and  must know the technical  part "   and build one coursework.. sound familiar right.....quote from our Prof thou.. ;)

From today class , i can now  clearly differentiate between a programming and authoring  .Make a conclusion out of today 1st activity - read an article

                           " Programming create Authoring"

Programming
Features:-
  • Machine language
  • powerful
  • no limitation
  • Take time to learn
  • Complicated (not GUI)
Authoring
Features:-
  • Scripting
  • light ( an output  of programming)
  • have limitation
  • easy to learn
  • Interactive (GUI)

Multimedia Authoring Paradigms

At first when i hear  this word  "paradigms" and  " metafora"  . ..scary okay..seem complicated... but then as we go in depth actually it's a description on how it's work and  type of category .

Example 1    : Powerpoint "
                     Metafora : Slide based

Example 2 :   Authorware
                    Metafora: Icons based

Scenario :
Incase somebody ask you : How many types of authorware?
The aswer is depends on the metafora .
(My conclusion of the answer  : short , smart and professional )

(At this level of learning process- i need to know the reason behind of  each things and need to have knowledge on critical review. It is because as a Master or PHD students we are train to be a thinker - quote from Prof)

Logic assumption that can be made is certain authoring software is used for certain purpose.
Think  smart , work smart before making any decision on creating something.

Stand Alone Apps VS Web Apps

As the word itself ,  from my point of view stand alone can be consider as independent while web in general is a connection , networking so logic assumption  it's dependent to others.

For  this subject, stand alone apps can be run using any computers as long as the basic requirements such as CD  ROM Drive and USB port are available at the computer. Usually the courseware already  been save as a portable format  using CD, pen drive or external hard disk to make it easy to bring anywhere . Apart from the devices , backup plan in case any problem occur to the hardware- put it at  server or cloud storage .In term of Web Apps, we  need internet connection and reliable speed to browse the apps without any problem of  using the apps .

Nowadays, the trend for web apps are:
 - interactive moves
-straight to the point
-socialization through web

As an educator , we need to know that courseware is meant for learning not teaching.

Web Development

Summary :-

Webpage : one page
Website : several pages of webpage
Portal : Everything is there ( not in trend nowadays)

Example of important terms : downloading, streaming ,HTML,HTTP

The easier  way to understand is using visual image .

                                                    Static VS Dynamic Website

Static Website                                                             Dynamic Website
Direct uploading by owner to web hosting                    Uploading to the server
Have navigation menu  (User follow instruction)          Interaction activity (User can edit )
Secure                                                                          Easy to hack if low in security
Suitable for small scale /budget business                    For big company with lots of data

                                                     ASP VS PHP languages

ASP (Active Server Page)
  • Using Microsoft Windows platform
  • Database : Microsoft Access
  • Testing Server : IIS 7
PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor)
  • Acronym for Hypertext Preprocessor
  • Using Open Source platform
  • Database : My SQL
  • Testing Server: Apache

To be honest , the sub topic about ASP & PHP languages for website, i need practical hands on - in order to understand the flow of it. For the time being, i can understand the basic theory of it based on this week  lesson . Finishing  my entry for this week..

Thank You
